Journeying together in the Way of Jesus

Who We Are

St John's is a congregation of The United Church of Canada located in Marathon, Ontario.

We are an
Affirming,  accessible, and welcoming congregation with a dynamic ministry in our local and world community.

We believe in celebrating diversity.

Our building is wheelchair accessible. We have a concrete ramp to bring you from the parking lot to the door, the outside door is large button controlled, there is a lift between the main floor and the lower floor and there are accessible washrooms on both floors.

Membership

Everyone is welcome at St. John’s – seekers, regulars, the curious, visitors, young, old and in between, gay, trans and straight.

Sometimes, it feels important to make a commitment or a re-commitment  to the community and to the journey, through Baptism, re-affirmation of faith or transfer from another community. If you would like to formally join St. John’s please get in touch with our minister.

Our Core Ministry

We identify radical and intentional hospitality as our core ministry.

The word radical comes from the Latin word “radix” the same word from which we get radish.  So to be radical, is to get at the root of the thing – to go deep.  In chemistry a radical can refer to an atom, molecule or ion – the smallest element – in a chemical reaction.  We have “toned the statement down a little” by adding the word “intentional”.

Hospitality shapes all aspects of our ministry. We extend it in big and small ways: hosting a travelling group; being open to a new idea; or opening our home to a stranger; or inviting a friend into the St. John’s community; or simply giving a tour of our building to a visitor.
