Prayer: Spending Time with God
How Do You Pray?
Daily prayer keeps our relationship with the Holy healthy and tight. Many of us pray using words – we have a conversation with God about our world, our friends, our families and ourselves. We praise the wonders of God’s creation. We tell God what we are particularly thankful for at the time.
We pray in silence or aloud. In the silence, our words may be in our heads – or we may use no words at all, just silence.
Try this week praying with a picture. This one is particularly graphic and lends itself to words or no words, smiles and tears. I hope you will try spending some time with this picture. Share that time with a friend if you feel called to do so.
Prayer for the Times
Ann Krikken, a friend from the United Church in Iroquois Falls sent this story by email:
One Sunday morning at a small southern church the new pastor called on one of the older deacons to lead in the opening prayer. The deacon stood up, bowed his head and said, "Lord, I hate buttermilk."
The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going. The deacon continued, "Lord, I hate lard." Now the pastor was totally perplexed.
The deacon continued, "Lord, I ain't too crazy about plain flour either. But after you mix 'em all together and bake 'em in a hot oven.... I just love biscuits!
The deacon didn't stop there. "Lord," he said, help us realize when things come up that we don't like, whenever we don't understand what You are doing, that we need to wait and see what You are making. After you get through mixing and baking, it'll probably be something even better than biscuits. Amen."
Ann commented that this isn't so much funny as applicable to the times. She also passed on her prayer for each of us:
God bless you all!
Stay safe and healthy everyone.
